This list identifies those who are responsible for
nursing home and skilled nursing facility
administration. They are also known as medical and
health services managers. These manager positions are
responsible for the care and feeding of both elderly
and younger who are unable to totally care for
themselves.
Administration of the staff of such a facility is a
delicate balancing act that requires: personnel
management skills, knowledge of finance, understanding
state and Federal regulations (including Medicare
and Medicaid) and, of course, ensuring that all medical
directives for patients are followed. In smaller
facilities, the manager is more hands-on while in large
facilities, there may be several staff members to
assist in each of the major roles.
A master’s degree is the standard credential for most
positions.
Median annual earnings of medical and health services
managers were $61,370 in a recent year.
