Just Updated! The Convention Industry Council is 
comprised of 26 organizations in the meetings 
industry - conventions, exhibitions, travel, and 
hospitality. Its Certified Meeting Professional 
(CMP) program is the standard of excellence in 
the meeting profession.

These CMPs have passed a rigorous examination 
that qualifies them to claim the coveted CMP 
designation. They first must have at least three 
years of experience in the meeting industry, or 
a four-year degree in meeting management, and 
meet other stiff requirements. These are truly 
the very top professionals in the field. 

The convention, exhibition and meeting industry 
is huge. In 1995, the last survey year, industry 
spending reached $80.7 billion. A new survey 
will undoubtedly show a much higher figure.
